One Cockpit Experience
A Modern car cockpit that spreads seamlessly across the dashboard to create an immersive experience that revolves around convenience and safety for drivers and passengers. This system attempts to address multiple problems that are prevalent in developing countries.
It aims to reduce cognitive load and enables informed decision making for the users.
The information is strategically segregated, into primary, secondary and tertiary data; further, the primary data is displayed on the Instrument cluster and the secondary and tertiary data is displayed on the Infotainment system and passenger display. The data is structured to be transferred from one display to another contextually.
Shaping the essential
With a significant emphasis on the in-car experience, the design was developed from inside out. Exploring the theme of essentiality, the interior development subsequently influenced the exterior design treatment.
Striking a Balance
The TD423 buck was designed as a canvas to showcase meticulously chosen technical components, providing an immersive and relatable experience of the technology. The challenge was to create a subtle design that wouldn't distract from the main focus while still maintaining relatable resemblance to a typical vehicle on the road.
UI/UX Design
Terrain Mapping
Detection of potholes, speed breaker, foot path, dividers and necessary intimation via Instrument Cluster and Infotainment System.
Pedestrian Detection
Detection of pedestrians, animals and other objects hampering the current route’s traffic flow.
Connectivity based route suggestion
Poor network is a common phenomenon in developing countries and staying connected in remote areas is a matter of safety. The system detects the availability of network connection in the set route and suggests route changes accordingly.
UI/UX Design
Do not disturb
To address information overload, users can activate the 'Do Not Disturb' mode which simplifies the cockpit's user interface. It displays only essential information and the secondary information is accessible with a simple tap on the screen.
Vehicle data and alerts
The system provides users with information on their vehicle's battery level and suggests nearby charging stations, along with the charging speed of each station.
UI/UX Design
Vehicle type detection
Poorly lit infrastructure and malfunctioning lights on vehicles pose a visibility challenge in identifying the type of vehicle during night time driving. Vehicle type detection is a feature introduced to assist drivers in such scenarios.
Inter screen swipe and drop
Swiping data between the passenger display/infotainment system to the instrument cluster enables a seamless exchange of contextual information.
Safe exit
The ORVM displays a safe exit indicator by detecting and calculating the speed of the approaching vehicles, assisting users to safely exit the vehicle.
UI/UX Design
The concept is currently prototyped. Testing and design validation is in progress to understand the optimization required for a production-level design.
