Immersive lighting Experience

Advanced Panoramic Heads-up-display

Relaxed and calm environment with Lounge mode

Introduction

User Experience  |  Visual Design  |  Interaction Design

Cabin-X or Cabin Experience features a 16.5-inch central infotainment display and a system of seven micro laser projection Heads-Up Displays (HUDs). The infotainment screen serves as the primary hub for navigation, media, and connectivity functions, offering an immersive and interactive experience for the driver and passengers.

The micro laser projection HUDs are strategically positioned to provide critical, glanceable information including speed, warnings, and driving assistance cues directly within the driver's line of sight.

Visual Design Board

Android + Unity

The Cabin-X interface is powered by an Android-based HMI platform, seamlessly integrated with a real-time Unity 3D environment. While Android manages functional operations and UI logic, Unity enables immersive visual storytelling by controlling lighting, mode change 3D animations, real-time TPMS. This dual-system setup ensures both system reliability and expressive freedom, allowing users to interact with a live visual ecosystem while experiencing fluid, sensory-rich transitions across the HMI.

HorizonHUD

HorizonHUD is a next-generation head-up display system that projects contextual information directly onto the windshield using a custom array of micro laser projectors. It provides bite-sized, glanceable widgets that include navigation cues, battery status, point-of-interest markers, trip insights, music lyrics, and more. While the driver sees fixed safety-critical elements, passengers can select from a library of custom widgets. This keeps the driver informed without distraction and adds interactive flexibility for co-passengers.

Lumenaura

Lumenaura redefines automotive interaction by using light as the interface. It unifies exterior signals, interior ambience, and information display into a seamless visual language. From dynamic welcomes to Lounge Mode, light becomes the bridge between human and machine, enhancing safety, clarity, and emotional connection.

Lighting as UX

Seat Edge Lighting with Haptic Feedback:
Discreet lighting along the seat edges complements haptic feedback for alerts, creating a multi-sensory, non-intrusive communication layer.

HorizonHUD (Windshield Projection):
Uses micro-laser projection to place glanceable widgets in the driver’s line of sight. Visuals follow the same light-based design language: minimal, glowing, and adaptive.

Aurora Visual Environment (Unity Layer):
A custom simulation space where users can preview and modify lighting themes in a responsive environment inspired by natural light movements.

Usability and Testing

Each Element of the User Experience Was Tested The team conducted granular usability testing on all UX components, from UI screens to contextual lighting cues that indicate system states (e.g., alerts, navigation, feedback).

To refine the interface, A/B testing was conducted comparing different light flow designs, timing, and animation behaviors.

Technology and Development Challenges:

HorizonHUD challenges related to projection clarity, widget visibility across lighting conditions, and precise calibration to vehicle geometry. Integrating multiple real-time data streams while keeping the system lightweight and power-efficient was a key software task.
